Sunderland Labour says 'I'm alright, Jack' as they refuse to declare a Crime Emergency in Sunderland
Last Wednesday we brought forward plans to declare a Crime Emergency in Sunderland, something that would have led to a review of how the Police and Council tackle anti-social behaviour and crime in Sunderland, as well as prioritising ASB, off road bikers and illegal parking in key areas such as Chester Road and Barnes Park.
Sunderland Labour rejected the calls for a Crime Emergency stating that 'crime is flat lining' - which is a total joke.
Chester Road has never been worse with illegal parking. Barnes Park is on fire most nights with youths now carrying Stanley knives into the park. Off-road bikers are riding everywhere unchallenged.
But we all know why Labour voted against our calls for a Crime Emergency - They would need to admit to their own failings.
Conservative Councillor Michael Hartnack, former Area Commander for Northumbria Police, revealed during the meeting that when he was in Northumbria Police the Labour administration in Sunderland City Council never challenged the police over their resource allocations - showing that Labour never stands up for Sunderland when it comes to policing.
Labour is soft on crime in Sunderland.
