St Peter’s Conservative Councillor Josh McKeith Launches Petition to Preserve Bungalow Cafe Junction Roundabout
St Peter’s Conservative Councillor Josh McKeith has launched a community petition urging Sunderland City Council to retain the existing roundabout at the Bungalow Cafe junction (Harbour View, Pier View, and Roker Terrace). The campaign, backed by local residents and business owners, highlights the importance of the current traffic system for daily commutes and local commerce, while raising concerns about the proposed introduction of traffic lights.
The petition argues that replacing the roundabout with traffic lights could lead to increased congestion, longer waiting times, and negatively affect the area. To enhance safety for the new cycle lane, the petition suggests installing zebra crossings as a safer, less disruptive alternative to traffic lights.
Councillor Josh McKeith said: “This is about maintaining the efficiency and charm of our area while ensuring safety for all road users. I encourage everyone who values our current system in Roker to sign the petition and make their voices heard.”
The petition is now open for signatures from residents, business owners, and supporters who wish to protect the existing traffic system. To sign the petition scroll down.
