Major Labour U-turn on Dogs on the Beach PSPO

The Sunderland Conservatives have welcomed the decision to add a ‘status quo’ option in relation to allowing dogs on beaches to the PSPO consultation.

This option has only been added after several thousand residents signed a petition opposing the initial proposals and Conservatives across the City asked the Council for change.

The issue was brought to their attention by Fulwell's Cllr James Doyle.

Commenting, Cllr Doyle said:

“I’m pleased that the Council has given residents the chance to keep the status quo, which is seemingly the preferred option.

“I asked the Council to do this last week and I’m pleased that they’ve belatedly done the right thing.

"Allowing dogs on beaches, in a controlled fashion, provides the best solution for all parties.”
