Working with The Bunker we are creating a Children's Music Lessons Scholarship

Councillors Fund Sunderland Music Scholarship

Cllr Lyall Reed of St Michael's ward has been working with The Bunker CIC to bring free introduction music lessons to primary school children across Sunderland. These introductory sessions, funded through Community Chest funding, will see The Bunker go into primary schools and offer free music lessons to students who might not have thought about taking up an instrument before.

Working cross-party with councillors in St Peter's, Barnes, Ryhope and Caste as well as in St Michael's, this project will see children from those communities be offered the chance for fully-funded music lessons.

Commenting Cllr Lyall Reed said:

This Children's Music Lessons Scholarship will see kids from across Sunderland be offered the chance to take up an instrument and learn to play. Working with The Bunker and councillors from across the city, this project will hopefully have a massive impact on children in Sunderland. I've been talking to other City Councillors who want to get in on the project and help fund it in future years - Let's hope we can keep this scholarship going well into the future.

If funding is officially granted at Area committees in March the project will start in the Spring and Summer times.
